Guidelines for Recycling Hazardous Waste
*only at specified locations!
The following materials must be separated by type and put into the appropriate recycling bins.
Dogget Road Recycling Center*
• Batteries*
Lithium ion, alkaline, car batteries, etc.
• Electronic Recycling* accepted at all locations
Including televisions, computers, radios, clocks, etc.
• Household hazardous waste*
Liquid waste—latex and oil paint, pesticides, anti-freeze, old fuel (gasoline, diesel and kerosene etc.*)
Florescent tubes* and Aerosol cans*
• Used Motor Oil and Oil Filters*
• White Goods* accepted at all locations
o Scrap metal, sheet metal, lawn mowers (must be free of gas and oil)
o Major appliances—washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, dish washers, freezers, bicycles
Dogget Road Recycling Center, Bina Convenience Center, or Ashe County Landfill *
• Used Tires*
(tires accepted with rims in them; they must be neatly stacked in the trailer provided for their disposal.)
Ashe County Landfill *accepts all types of materials (fees may apply), except as noted below**
Materials must be sorted according to categories where they are to be placed:
• Wood Pallets*
(wooden pallets must be recycled only at the landfill)
• Solid Waste
all household, commercial, and industrial waste must be placed in subtitle D landfill.
• LCID
Clean wood, dirt, brick, concrete, brush limbs, etc.
• White Goods/Metal - accepted at all locations
Scrap metal, sheet metal, lawn mowers (must be free of gas and oil)
Major appliances—washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, dish washers, freezers, bicycles
• Dead Stock/carcasses
Accepts all animals, including cows, goats, horses, etc.
**These items are banned from landfill — they must be recycle appropriately (see recycling guidelines above)
• Plastic**
• Aluminum**
• Wood Pallets**
• Electronic Recycling and Batteries**
