Guidelines for Household Recycling

Recycle Plastic Bags and Plastic film at local retail stores such as: Ingles, Food Lion, Walmart, and Lowes

 

Recycle the following at all Ashe County Convenience Centers and Dogget Road Recycling Center.

​The following items can be placed in the Single Stream Recycling units (all-in-one) compactors

Recyclable items should not be bagged

  • Plastics (empty & rinse)

Clean food and beverage containers with recycling numbers 1, 2, & 5

  • Bottles, Tubs, Jugs and Jars (clear and non-clear) and clear plastic containers  

  • Metals (empty & rinse)

Aluminum and steel cans, metal lids, tops, and jar rings, clean/dry aluminum foil  

  • Paper and non-corrugated cardboard

Newspapers, Magazines, junk mail, office paper, Books (Remove cover on hard back books)

The following materials must be separated by type and placed in the appropriate recycling containers

  • Corrugated cardboard

Corrugated cardboard only

  • Glass

Clear glass, brown glass, green glass

No glass from windows, mirrors, baking dishes, or drinking glasses

  • Electronic Recycling

  • Batteries (Dogget Rd only)

  • White Goods

  • Used Oil Filters (Dogget Rd only)

  • Used Tires (Dogget Rd and Bina Convenience Centers only)

 

Useable wood Pallets must be recycled at the landfill

Useable wood Pallets, Electronics, Batteries, White Goods, Used oil filters, and Used Tires are banned from the landfill but can be recycled at the Ashe County Landfill.
